Northbound Seminar (Eng)

This seminar is co-organized by the Oceanographic Institute and the MKdW, with the support of Prof. Dr. h.c. mult. Frederik Paulsen, founder of the MKdW, and led by Prof. Dr. Peter Herzig, former Director General of the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, will feature the following speakersTinka Murk, Professor at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, Mojib Latif, climatologist, professor at GEOMAR and president of the German Club of Rome Association, Antje Boetius, Director of the Alfred Wegener Institute, specializing in marine and polar research, Arved Fuchs, explorer, journalist, writer and filmmaker, Ulrike Wolff-Thomsen, Director of MKdW. Boris Herrmann, skipper of Team Malizia, will send us a friendly message from his regatta location.They will present solutions and initiatives to preserve the extraordinary richness of the connected ecosystems of the North Sea and the nearby Arctic, in response to the challenges of climate, biodiversity, and the development of a truly sustainable blue economy, and will highlight the role of science and art and the power of dialogue to engage civil society, policymakers and private sector actors in protecting the Ocean.
